The new Iowa roadmap is now available across the state. Mark Hansen of the Iowa Department of Transportation says there are more than four-hundred changes over last year’s map — with the most noticeable probably being new roadways. Hansen says there’s the new Highway 218 portion of the Avenue of the Saints in Lee County, the new Highway 34 bypass at Danville and Iowa 60 in Plymouth and Sioux Counties.

Hansen says there’s also a new feature to help people read the map as they’ve added a latitude/longitude grid to help people navigate and he says that grid corresponds to the city index. So if you’re looking up a city, you also have a grid to work with according to Hansen. The outside of the map features a tribute to the history of Iowa’s roadways.

“This is the 50th anniversary of the interstate system,” Hansen says. “We decided to highlight that with the (50th anniversary) logo on the cover.” Copies of the 2006 map are available at the state’s 18 driver’s license locations and all six district offices, as well as in Iowa’s 20 welcome centers.
