Sentencing is June fifth for a man convicted in a western Iowa case that put a national spotlight on Iowa. It was a case of domestic abuse, and the Pottawatamie County attorney says he’d hoped for a kidnapping conviction in addition to the verdicts of domestic abuse and sexual assault returned by the jury Friday afternoon against Travis Frey.
What vaulted the case to national status was the discovery that he’d written a four-page “contract of wifely expectations” outlining in detail what his wife was to wear, or not wear, and other commands for hygiene and sexual activities. The document was posted on “The Smoking Gun” and other websites and drew extensive comment and discussion. His wife says she never signed it. She charged she was tied up and sexually assaulted by her husband one year ago, but his conviction in the case doesn’t send his problems.
Frey will be arraigned Thursday on forty counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, in connection with explicit pictures of children that investigators say they found on his computer.
