Eight schools in the North Iowa Conference are exploring a plan to pool their resources to offer more summer courses to students. North Iowa superintendent Larry Hill says it gives parents and students more options. He says the program gives them an opportunity during June for “reteaching and enrichment”. Hill says it allows them to offer courses that schools traditionally don’t offer because of low numbers or the time it takes.

Hill says the summer courses would help students maintain their focus. He says not everyone learns the same way on the same day. Hill says there are some classes where it takes a little longer to master them, such as upper level math and science. Hill says these summer courses allow the students to focus on the subjects without having to worry about other courses.

Hill says the schools felt this was something that everyone could benefit from. He says there are some courses where the individual schools don’t have enough students for them. He says by pooling the students, they can get enough to participate and also hire a “master level” teacher to teach the class. The classes would start in June. The eight schools involved are Forest City, Garner-Hayfield, West Hancock, North Iowa, Belmond-Klemme, Lake Mills, Mason City Newman and Osage.
