Northwestern College softball coach Melanie Mason feels her team will play better in the second half of this season. After a 27-5 start in 2005 the Raiders struggled down the stretch by winning just ten of their final 25 games.

Mason says this year’s team is a mix of youth and experience. She says the biggest surprise is the way the freshmen have stepped up and played. Mason says that has complimented the upper classmen.

Northwestern is 5-1 in Great Plains Conference action and returns to league play Friday at home against Concordia. They played early on and lost 10-0 and she says they feel they didn’t play well and they feel this will be a close game. The first matchup was in a tournament down in Missouri.
