A Reno, Nevada investment company (Alpha Holdings) has chosen the city of Tama as the site for a new 50 million gallon a year ethanol plant. Tama County Economic Development Director Deb Collum Calderwood said they received the notice via e-mail from Alpha CEO Christopher Miller.

Tama County, the City of Tama Downtown Revitalization Board, and Alliant Energy have been working with the planners for a few weeks now, and they’ve chosen Tama as the site for this 85-Million-dollar ethanol plant.

Collum-Calderwood says there are still some details to be worked out before construction begins. There are a few variables she says still have to be worked out, including rail access and a price for land. Officials from Alpha will be in Tama Wednesday, April nineteenth at the Tama Civic Center for a public forum to discuss details of the project.

The plant is expected to employ 35 workers with a payroll of one-point-eight-Million dollars a year. Plans are also in the works to double production and employment in the future.
