A judge heard arguments in Cedar Rapids Wednesday in the lawsuit seeking to overturn the ban on the Iowa Lottery’s TouchPlay machines. Paula Roby is a lawyer for
Hawkeye Commodity Promotions of Cedar Falls which filed the suit. She says they’re thankful to be able to present their case and were happy to hear the questions the judge had.

Julie Pottorf is defending the case for the State of Iowa. Pottorf says she appreciates the judge moving the issue along very quickly. Pottorf says they will file their brief on the case Friday and the other side will file a response by Monday, and she says they expect the judge to act quickly. The judge has promised to make a ruling before May 3rd — the day the Legislature has said the machines must be shut down.
