Many Iowans won’t be spending this spring weekend enjoying the time off. Instead they’ll be at a desk, inside, punching calculator keys and slogging through tax returns. Jeff Strawhacker, a C-P-A in West Des Moines, says he’s at work too, doing other people’s taxes, as this is his busiest weekend of the year.

Strawhacker says “It’s been a lot of late hours, a lot of trying to get last-minute returns crunched out, a lot of phone calls, but we just keep pushing through and hopefully we’ll meet the deadline.” Strawhacker says if you’re one of those procrastinators, don’t get stressed out and make a costly mistake.

Strawhacker says “The best advice I can give is to not rush through it. So many people wait ’til the last minute and they’re trying to find all those records, they’re trying to put it together in a hurry. It’s just a prime time for errors to happen.” The deadline to file federal returns is Monday.
