Investigators have determined the cause of a Cedar Falls apartment fire earlier this month. Officials blame an electrical short for starting the April 5th fire at the Hidden Valley complex near the University of Northern Iowa campus.

Cedar Falls Fire Chief Steve Mitchell says the electrical short ignited some insulation in the attic and rafters. The fire damaged the roof and eight apartments in an 18-unit building. No injuries were reported, but several tenants — many of whom are U-N-I students — have been temporarily displaced while repairs are being made.
