Authorities in western Iowa are releasing more information about a Sunday morning fatal shooting. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded after a 9-1-1 call came in from a female reporting a shooting near Jacksonville. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a man who had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

The man is identified as 23-year-old Francisco Berrocal of rural Audubon County. He was flown by helicopter to an Omaha hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is being conducted today by the State Medical Examiner. The State Division of Criminal Investigation collected several pieces of evidence from the scene, and took the evidence to Des Moines for further analysis. Authorities say several firearms were also taken. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says, at this time, the shooting is still considered an accident.
