Cherokee needs to clear one more hurdle to earn a second straight trip to the state baseball tournament. After knocking off second ranked and defending 3A state champion Sioux City Heelan in the district championship the fourth ranked Braves take on a Spencer team that beat them twice during the regular season.

Cherokee coach Andy Vanfossan expects a low scoring game as they face Spencer’s top pitcher. Vanfossan says they’re going to have to put some things together to get some runs. He says whichever pitcher throws the best will determine the outcome.

Vanfossan says even though the Braves are ranked he feels like they are the underdog. He says they’re one of the last rated teams playing, and he says Spencer has to be the favorite after beating them twice already.
