A Farley man has been sentenced to ten years in prison, for his involvement in a fatal traffic accident last year. Twenty-one-year-old Martin Hefel was the driver of a pickup that crashed near Cascade on July 10th of 2005. Hefel and his passenger, 20-year-old Kraig Gavin of Cascade were ejected from the truck.

Gavin died of his injuries and authorities said Hefel’s blood alcohol level was between point-two-oh and point-two-two percent — while the legal limit in Iowa is point-oh-eight. Also, authorities said Hefel was driving at least 81 miles and hour in a 55 mile an hour zone.

Hefel pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide by reckless driving and drunk driving. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay 150-thousand in restitution.
