A former Iowa State golfer won the 73rd Waterloo Open on Sunday. Scott Hart used steady play down the stretch and a six under on Sunday to hold on for a one stroke win in front of three other golfers. Tied with Derek Lamely heading into the 18th, Hart needed just par to hold on for a 14 under win to pocket the 30 thousand dollar professional prize. Bart was one of many local players hoping to impress the local golf fans. Waterloo native Brock Mulder finished with a pair of 69’s for a six under final and Cedar Rapids native Sean McCarty was two strokes better finishing six strokes off the leader. UNI Golf Coach John Bermel competed against the young big swinging pros, finishing his two rounds with a 139 at five under par. The Amateur winner was a young man from Glasgo, Kentucky. Jamie Frazier actually matched the pro winner, Hart, with a 14 under, 130. Frazier has one year left at Murray State and hopes to be back to win some money some day.
