The 36th annual Albert City Threshermen & Collectors Show began Friday and runs through this weekend in Pocahontas County. Show spokesman Marlow Feldman says each afternoon there’s a parade of antique tractors and farm equipment. They’re featuring Ferguson tractors and equipment, and gas engines built in Iowa. There’s plenty to do for visitors of all ages. Feldman talks about an appetizing “first” that’ll be featured this year.

Something a little different this year will be the producer who’s bringing bison on Saturday, including samples of buffalo jerky and leather goods. He also figures people will get a kick out of the sheep-shearing on Sunday. The show is held on a working farm, and Feldman says even people who think they know a lot about old-fashioned farming may be surprised to see some of the exhibits. He says some of the demonstrations have been months in the planning and execution.

They planted “78-day corn” on the tenth of April, so it’s matured and the shucks are brown, ready to be bound with a corn-binder and run through an ensilage cutter, something else they’ve never done before. Another plot of corn planted on the fifth of July is up to about a foot tall now, and there’ll be a demonstration of how it’s cultivated with horses, “going crossways,” he says. There’s also a parade each day of the show.
