A Pocahontas man will spend about seventy years in prison for shooting at his wife and infant twin sons last year. Richard Guidry of Havelock was sentenced (Friday) in Pocahontas County District Court to 25 years for two counts of attempted murder, ten years for intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and another ten for willful injury. Judge Joel Swanson ordered the sentences to be served consecutively.

Guidry was convicted after an incident in August 25, 2005, in which he fired through the windshield of a van in which his estranged wife was riding. Two other people in the van were injured, the driver and one of the children. Guidry fled and was later found in a farm field west of Pocahontas. Authorities also recovered the shotgun he’d used.
