A domestic violence situation this morning in the western Iowa’s Pottawattamie County that could have had an explosive ending came instead to a peaceful conclusion. Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker says his deputies were called to a home in Avoca, just after 9:30 this (Friday) morning.

They arrested 40-year Brian Hytrek there, and Danker says his wife gave them permission to search the house. The sheriff says they’d had a report there might be weapons in the home. While they searched the house deputies found a pipe bomb in the house, so they called out the bomb squad.

The device was taken out to a nearby field where Danker says it was “rendered safe.” Hytrek was charged with domestic violence. No charges have been filed in connection with the pipe bomb, but the investigation continues. No injuries were reported.
