The Farm Progress show begins today (Tuesday) in Amana and promises more than 400 exhibitors. The Amana Colonies in Iowa get nearly one million visitors a year…but they’ll get one-third of that total within just three days this week for the Farm Progress Show.

Steve Penney, C-E-O of the Amana Society, says the economic impact to the region is estimated at ten-million dollars for the three days of the farm show. Penney says it’s the largest show in the state of Iowa, and says being a part of it is “just fabulous.”

For years, the Farm Progress Show rotated between sites in Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. During the 1990s it was staged four times at Amana, but it hasn’t been back there since 1999, until now. Organizers hoping to avoid traffic jams that have grown to ten miles long at past events say they’ll let visitors park first this year, and then buy their admission tickets.
