More than 34-thousand fans watched the opening weekend of racing at the new Iowa Speedway in Newton. Chief Operating Officer Andy Vertrees says it was good to get started. He says it was a training ground to get ready for the October races. Vertrees says the track will get better as more grooves develop, but he says they have a “winner here.”

There was a tire wear issue on the opening weekend but Vertrees feels that will go away with time. Vertrees says anytime you have a new track that can be a problem, but he says the more they race on the track, the tire wear issues will go away.

Newton Mayor Chaz Allen feels the track had a great opening weekend. Allen says they almost doubled the biggest crowd at a Hooters Race, and calls it a great success for our community.
The next race weekend is October 14th and 15th.
