A northwestern Iowa man was killed this (Wednesday) morning in a crash on Interstate-80 in western Iowa. The Iowa State Patrol says 74-year-old Donald James Smith of Sioux City was killed when the 2002 Lincoln Towncar he was driving rear-ended a tractor-trailer parked along the shoulder of the I-80 westbound on ramp from the Minden exit in Pottawattamie County.

Troopers say they don’t know why Smith crashed into the back of the 2000 Peterbilt semi. The operator of the big rig, 28-year-old Darren Headings, of Sedalia, Missouri, suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment. The accident happened just before three AM.
