More details have surfaced surrounding a Waterloo police officer who’s under investigation for alleged criminal misconduct. Officer Robert Michael is one of two men charged in connection with an altercation authorities say occurred this summer. Also charged is Waterloo firefighter Craig Schellhorn.
Black Hawk County Sheriff’s officials say the two men got into a fight at a Waterloo water park on July 14th. Michael is charged with misdemeanor simple assault and disorderly conduct. He’s been on paid administrative leave since the incident. Schellhorn is facing a disorderly conduct charge, but is still on the job.
The two men are scheduled to appear for an arraignment hearing Friday morning in Black Hawk County District Court. A Dubuque County assistant attorney is prosecuting the cases to avoid any conflict of interest.
