More than just bragging rights will be on the line tonight in class 1A when third rated Southern Cal hosts number-four Pocahontas Area. The winner takes sole possession of the lead in district two.

Southern Cal coach Bryan Case says there should be a huge crowd and a playoff atmosphere. Case says they haven’t played Pocahontas in several years, but it’s still a rivalry. Case says the different districts and classification has kept them from meeting. Case says there will be contrasting styles in this game. It will be Southern Cals’s size advantage against the speed and quickness of Pocahontas.

Pocahontas coach Roger Sommerlot says his team faces a big challenge against an experienced football team and he says they’re a bigger team. Pocahontas Area lost a number of starters off last year’s team that made it to the second round of the playoffs in 2005 but the Indians have not missed a beat.
Sommerlot says this will have the atmosphere of a big game.

Also in 1A, eighth-ranked Clayton Ridge looks to stay unbeaten in district five with a game at home against Bellevue. Despite finishing 2-7 in 2005 the Eagles and coach Chad Harbaugh had high expectations for this season. He says they lost five games by eight points or less and were in all the games. At 3-0 in the district the Eagles are a game ahead of Bellevue in the standings.
