One of two eastern Iowa brothers accused of killing a Minnesota man has been sentenced to life in prison. Twenty-three-year-old Jaramy Alford was sentenced this week in Ramsey County Minnesota District Court to life in prison, but will be eligible for parole in 30 years.

Alford had pleaded guilty last month to first-degree murder while committing an aggravated robbery and first-degree arson. Alford and his brother, 18-year-old Luis are accused of killing 32-year-old Douglas Miller last November. Miller died of multiple stab wounds and head trauma. The two also allegedly set Miller’s Minnesota mobile home on fire.

The brothers had been staying with Miller, but were about to be evicted for allegedly staling form the man. The Alfords then fled to a relative’s home in Benton County, Iowa. Miller’s van was found in the Cedar River near Palo and the brothers were arrested a short time later. Luis’ trial is set for January 8th in Minnesota.
