Investigators in the death of a Muscatine woman have several big questions to answer. In a situation worthy of a TV crime drama, agencies working together don’t know yet who’s in charge of the crime scene. That’s because they don’t know where it is. They’re fairly certain the body of 21-year-old Miriam Carmona was dumped at the foot of a bridge on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River.

Rock Island County is partnering in the case with Muscatine police, and if they can figure out where the woman was killed, that will become the jurisdiction where it’s investigated. They’re not telling why the autopsy left them convinced the woman was murdered, but it did add one fact to the investigation — she was five months pregnant.
