In four of the last five years Iowa and Iowa State have both gone to bowl games and there have been few days like Saturday. Both teams were hammered at home by bad teams. The Hawkeyes lost to Northwestern 21-7. The Wildcats were in control from the outset to earn their first Big Ten victory.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says it’s a team loss that starts with the coaching as he says he didn’t have the team ready to go. Ferentz says the reality is they’re 6-4 and look like a 6-4 team right now that has a lot of things to clean up.

Things get even tougher for the Hawks who host nationally ranked Wisconsin this weekend. Ferentz says the first thing they have to do is clean up their shop so they have a chance to come out and put on a good performance.

Iowa State dropped out of bowl contention and is now 0-6 in the Big 12 after a 41-10 loss at home to Kansas. Cyclones coach Dan McCarney says it’s one of the most disappointing losses in his 12 years at Iowa State.

McCarney says the fans deserve better than what they got. With two games left, McCarney says they can go one of two ways and he says he’ll trust the team will finish strong. The Cyclones need a win at Colorado or in the season finale at home against Missouri to avoid a winless conference season.
