An Iowa native was killed in Iraq last week. Forty-year-old Paul Finken, a lieutenant colonel in the 101st Airborne Division, was one of three soldiers killed Thursday when an “improvised explosive device” detonated near a patrol in Baghdad. Finken was born in Earling and was a 1989 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Finken is survived by his wife, Jackie, and three daughters, all from Clarksville, Tennessee. He is also survived by eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services are pending.
