Fifth district republican Steve King won another term in the House Tuesday, but will find himself in the minority party in January. King says the change will impact what he’s able to get done. King says the committee chairs will be different and he says that will make it harder for him to move his legislation through the committees. King says though, he’s “more concerned about where the American future is headed.”

King says he’s worried about a lot of the issues he campaigned on. King says he’s worried tax cuts will be allowed to expire, as he says the tax cuts have been key to the economic recovery. King say he’s already seen legislation to shut down all of our bases in Iraq, and possibly pull all the funding from Iraq. King says he expects democrats will bring forward a flood of legislation.

King says he doesn’t blame democrats from their philosophical perspective for trying to move their agenda, but King says he doesn’t know what their agenda is. King says, “They said that the American people are ready for a change. The American people have kind of said they’re ready for a change, but I don’t think they know what change that is they voted for. And we’ll find out in the weeks unfold in the months ahead.”

King says one thing that could possibly be on the agenda is an attempt to impeach the President. King says we could see the President being tied up for the last two years of his administration with and impeachment hearing, which Kings says would be a payback for Bill Clinton. King says, “We know that they (democrats) just hate George Bush. They hate George Bush more than they love America, and if you see impeachment come, that’ll confirm that for everybody in this country.”

The Iowa delegation has flipped from four republicans and one democrat, to three democrats and two republicans. King says he can’t put a finger on any one thing that led to the change. King says he doesn’t know what decided the Whalen and Braley race in favor of the democrat Braley. He says in an average year Jeff Lamberti would probably have beaten democrat incumbent Leonard Boswell. King says republican Jim Leach votes to the left of Boswell and got beat.

King says there seemed to be an anti-incumbent feeling among voters but it apparently was only anti-republican. King won his third term in the western Iowa district.
