A civil case involving a fatal boating accident in Dickinson won’t got to trial. Authorities say a settlement has been reached by the widow of a man killed on West Lake Okoboji in August of 2005. Jill Brosnahan of Perry filed suit against Justin Nearman of Sioux Falls.
Nearman was allegedly driving the boat that killed Brosnahan’s husband Michael. She also sued the boat’s owner, Richard Brant of Sioux Falls. The details of the settlement haven’t been released. Authorities allege Nearman was drunk at the time of the accident, and he’s facing charges in Dickinson County.
