Police confirmed today that there is a new lead in the Jodi Huisentruit case. Huisentruit was a local TV anchor when she vanished early one morning in June 1995 from the parking lot of her apartment house.

Mason City Police Lieutenant Ron Vande Weerd says the new lead involves a woman from out of state. Vande Weerd says the information just came in recently, after a Minnesota woman went to her local police department and told them she had some direct knowledge about Jodi’s case. That agency forwarded the information to Mason City cops and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. He says they’ll investigate to see how valid that tip may be and also plan to interview the woman.

The Lieutenant says they’ve had quite a few leads through the years on this case, and none panned out. This might be different, it might not, but he says they’re going to pursue all the leads. “In this case, there’ve been a lot of red herrings over the years,” he says. “It’s hard on the family, but he says you always hope, and they’ll just keep “plugging away until something does pop.”

Now the Mason City Globe-Gazette newspaper says it received an e-mail earlier this week from someone claiming to be an eyewitness. That anonymous tipster says they?ve ?recently gone to the police with the information, but I still can?t get over what took place.?

The e-mail also says the only other thing that they will tell is that there was more than one person involved. The Globe says an attempt to exchange e-mails with the person was unsuccessful. A Clear Lake man who runs a website focusing on Huisentruit?s disappearance also forwarded an e-mail to the paper, and says he’s had an exchange with the sender.
