The Denver airport re-opened a couple of runways today (Friday), two days after a major winter storm halted all flights, dumping a heavy load of snow on several western states.

More than 150 miles of Interstate-80 were closed for over 24 hours in Nebraska, and Rose White with Triple-A Auto Club says Iowa motorists setting out for a holiday trip should be alert for any delays, as you’ll be among a record number of drivers on the roads.

She says the peak road-travel numbers nationwide will be a local high as well, and says travelers should get as much information as you can before you hit the road, so you can learn what conditions are like as well as any closures. In Iowa, you can call 511 for road conditions, or before you leave hit the website “511-i-a-dot-org.”
