One Iowa leader expects little fallout from Tuesday’s ruling from Iraq’s highest court which rejected an appeal from former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein and said he should be hanged within 30 days. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says while Saddam’s Baath Party has threatened retaliation if he’s executed, there’s no significant concern.

Grassley says “I don’t think it’s going to cause any chaos around the world but I do think that it is going to embolden for a few days some of the Sunni dissidents and people that are already rioting and being insurgents. I think it’s going to encourage them to a greater extent but I think it’s going to be short-lived.” The Baath party, which disbanded after Saddam was overthown by U.S.-led forces in 2003, is vowing on a website to target U.S. interests anywhere on the globe.
