A 20-year-old soldier from southeast Iowa has reportedly been killed in fighting overseas. Published reports says Corporal Jonathan Schiller, from Ottumwa, was killed Sunday in Iraq. Schiller was serving with the U.S. Army’s 1st Cavalry and was a 2004 graduate of Ottumwa High School.
Schiller becomes the 49th Iowan killed in Iraq or Afghanistan from combat, illness or accident since the war began in March of 2003. Arrangements for Schiller are pending at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa.
