A South Dakota man’s been sentenced for killing another man with a boat.

Ten years was the sentence for Justin Nearman. He’s the Sioux Falls man who was operating a friend’s speedboat late one night in August 2005 on West Lake Okoboji when it slammed into another, killing a man.

Nearman was ordered to go to prison for five years, with the next five years to be suspended as part of a plea deal he made with prosecutors in November.

Michael Brosnahan, a Perry dentist, was killed in the crash. A new, nighttime speed limit on Dickinson County lakes was instituted as part of the reaction to the incident.
