One of the legendary high school football coaches in Iowa is retiring. Jim Bellamy is stepping down as the football coach of Mount Vernon. Bellamy has been coaching for 47 years, at Perry, Schaller and West Liberty.

Bellamy ranks third on the high school win list with a record of 320-126-4. Bellamy coached at Mount Vernon for 37 years, made the playoffs 20 times including state titles at Mount Vernon in 1974, 1993 and 1994. His teams finished runner-up five times.
