A late rally by Iowa came up short as the Hawkeyes lost at Illinois 74-70 in Big Ten action Wednesday night. A more than six minute span of the second half proved costly for Iowa. Leading 45-39 the Hawkeyes committed three straight turnovers and that ignited a 19-3 Illini run as they took the lead for good.

Senior guard Adam Haluska says they made some bad decisions and tried to force some things during that stretch. Haluska says he made a some of the bad decisions, and Illinois capitalized on all the mistakes. Haluska led the Hawkeyes with 25 points. Iowa coach Steve Alford says the Hawks played well except for that one key stretch.

Coach Steve Alford says they did not play very well and that was tough to overcome in the end. Alford says he was happy with they way his team handled its first conference road game. Alford says it has been three weeks since their last road game when they lost to Drake, and he says they have gotten better since then. But Alford says they have to get even better against Minnesota Saturday.

Iowa is 1-1 in the Big Ten and 9-7 overall.
