An autopsy’s been done on the driver who died when his truck crashed last week in Davenport. Sixty-two-year-old Francis Evans of Ohio had suffered a heart attack a couple months earlier so investigators wondered if a medical problem contributed to the crash.

After his pickup ran off Interstate-80 and hit a large highway sign, it kept on going into a farm field on the north side of the Quad Cities. He’d been pulling a trailer full of racing greyhounds, and the trailer came loose and rolled over in a ditch. Some of the dogs were hurt, several got loose, and four were hit and killed by traffic on the highway.

The autopsy revealed that head injuries killed Evans, he did not suffer a heart attack before the crash, but he had been prescribed medication that could cause drowsiness. The wreck happened about 4:30 in the morning.
