A 17-year-old student from Missouri Valley is charged with distributing a narcotic drug to other students, on a bus heading to school earlier this week. Harrison County Sheriff Terry Baxter says school officials at an alternative school in Woodbine became suspicious when several students were acting strangely.

Some kids showed up at their classes acting lethargic and some got sick. There were several students involved, and the situation became a matter of concern to school officials. Sheriff Baxter says it turned out to be an anti-psychotic medication they shared. One student was taken to a hospital to be checked out, and officials questioned several other students.

Another teen had given several other teens Seroquel before they went to class that morning. Based on the investigation, one 17-year-old has been charged with providing the prescription drug. Sheriff Baxter says taking drugs prescribed for someone else is risky. "This is the first time we’ve had an issue with this," he says. "Not drugs in schools in our county, because we have had those issues in the past, but this is the first time we’ve had something like this, prior to getting there."

The 17 year old was released to his parents and the case is being handled by the juvenile court system. No one was seriously injured.
