The identities of the victims of a small plane crash Friday afternoon southeast of Grinnell have been released. The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s office reports that 34-year-old Blane Anderson and 35-year-old Joshua James Reynolds — both of Iowa City — perished in the crash. The two were flying a small, home-built, single-engine, single-prop plane that was equipped to make water landings, too.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The plane crashed into a farm field about three miles southeast of Grinnell. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro says the plane was going to Iowa City. Grinnell airport manager William Owen says flight conditions at the time were cold, with clear visibility and ten mile an hour winds, with up to 20-mile-an-hour gusts. The cause of the crash is unknown. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
