The Waterloo East girls basketball team wants to cap the program’s best season ever with a trip to the state tournament. The Trjojans are 17-4 and fourth ranked heading into Thursday night’s regional opener against Waterloo West.

East coach Rich Uthoff says the kids have worked hard to get where they are, so the pressure is on the other teams to beat them. Uthoff says they have been successful at not beating themselves through most of the season.

Uthoff has orchestrated the rebuilding of a program that has never played in the state tournament. He says they’ve talked about that since he came in and says the boy’s team has a history of going to the tournament and winning state titles, so they want the girls to also get there.

Uthoff says the Trojans are ready to make a tournament run. He says they’re excited like everyone and believe they can play with the teams in their distinct. Uthoff says they’ll give it their best shot.
