The search is on for the person who killed a national symbol in eastern Iowa. Federal officials are offering a reward for information leading to the conviction of the person who shot a bald eagle near Dubuque last weekend.

It happened Sunday afternoon along the Mississippi River just north of Dubuque where a warm-water discharge keeps the river from freezing, making it a winter stop for many bald Eagles.

Authorities have not released information on what kind of gun was used to kill the eagle, but they are following up on leads. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is investigating and is offering a five-thousand dollar reward for information from the public on the shooting.
