Jefferson County’s largest employer says poor market conditions have led them to layoff 40 workers.  The Dexter Company in Fairfield, know known as Dexter Apache Holdings employs around 750 workers who make commercial laundry equipment and cast-iron products.

Company officials say the layoffs will be at the company’s foundry, where 190 workers will remain following the layoffs. In an official notice, Dexter Vice President Tom Jones says a softness in the market has made the layoffs necessary. However, the announcement says company plans to look for new customers for its products.
