The Drake women open the final week of the regular season tonight at home against Illinois State. The Bulldogs have turned around an injury plagued season in the past few weeks and are now 5-11 in the Valley after road wins at Wichita State and Missouri State last weekend.
Coach Amy Stephens credits the play of Lindsay Whorton and Brandy Dahir for their recent improvement. Stephens says they are in every ball game because of Whorton and Dahir’s leadership through "an unbelieveable season of adversity."
Stephens says opponents are playing against the Bulldogs in different ways than they did during the first half of the conference race. She says they’re using all types of defenses to try and stop them. Stephens says it’s interesting for a team that’s 10-16, but she says the opponents know they have to change to stop them.
