It’s another good day to stay at home. Travel advisories are posted all across the state in the aftermath of the latest blizzard, but Triple-A-Iowa’s Rose White says if you absolutely need to be on the roads, be prepared for anything.

White says to "make certain you are dressed appropriately. Wear layers of clothing and pack blankets, boots, heavy mittens, a hat and socks in your vehicle just in case you experience a vehicle breakdown." White says it’s important that you let others know you are out on these roads when the weather is this bad. She says "Make sure your cell phone is fully charged and let someone know when you are leaving as well as when you expect to arrive and give yourself extra time to each your destination."

White says there are things you need to do even before starting your car. White says "Remove the snow from all glass areas, your mirrors, your turn signals, brake lights and if you drive an SUV, remember that high-mounted brake light. You also need to remove the snow from that area."

Other tips include: watch out, if you’re following a semi, as ice and snow can fall from the top of the box and damage your vehicle. Also, do not leave your car unattended while warming it up. It’s an invitation for theft.
