Officials with the Iowa High School Athletic Association say the final pairings for next week’s boy’s state basketball tournament should be set on Wednesday. Two snowstorms have forced numerous postponements which means many district and sub-state tournaments are running several days behind schedule. In fact, more than 40 games were postponed on Friday and Saturday.

Dave Anderson of the association says it’s a challenge to the staff to reschedule and finding news sites, but he says it’s winter and these things happen sometimes. Anderson says they follow the advice of the schools when making a decision. He says when a superintendent says they’re not putting buses on the road, that’s what they listen to.

Anderson days he can’t remember a basketball post-season being affected by the weather this much. Anderson says they can remember an early fall snowstorm that forced them to move some football games, but he says he can’t recall this many basketball cancellations in the 18 years he’s been with the association.
