Top ranked IKM is a heavy favorite to win a second straight 1A championship and showed why in its opening round contest. The top ranked Hawks roared out to a 21-8 lead at the end of one in a 63-38 win over Andrew. IKM coach Gene Rasmussen says his team knows what to expect and they were a little more relaxed at the start of the game and that helped.

Andrew coach Cord Heim says the Hawks settled down after a shaky start. Heim says IKM is as good as advertised and says when they’re hitting shots, they’re hard to beat. Heim says getting to the state tournament was a great accomplishment for his team. He says he’s proud of his team and says he thought they were a little tight in the first half and played them almost even in the second half.

Nelia Olson led four players in double figures for IKM with 16 points. The Hawks take a 25-1 mark into the 1A semifinals. Tara Kilburg led Andrew with 16 points.
