The girl’s state basketball tournament opened this morning with the quarterfinal round in class 1A. A fast start was good enough for Graettinger-Terril. The Knights jumped out to a 16-4 lead at the outset and went on to down Bedford 49-37 in the tournament opener.

Graettinger-Terril led the entire way but had to withstand a second half rally by the Bulldogs. Trailing 31-19, Bedford used an 8-0 run to get to within three but that’s as close as they would get as Graettinger-Terril put the game away at the foul line by making 13 of 19. Megan Torkelson led the Knights with 22 points, including 10 of 12 from the charity stripe as they improve to 24-2 and advance to the semifinals in their first trip to the state tournament.

Erica Dalton led Bedford with 13.It was the first trip to state for the Bulldogs who finish the season 20-6.
