A continuing construction slowdown is bad news for more than fifty workers in Pella. Pella Corporation says its so-called "flex" jobs are subject to whatever happens in weather and the construction industry.

While there’s no question the storms of this month took a bite out of business, a sluggish economy also has more of its "flex" positions being inactivated. That means a pink slip for fifty-six workers at the company’s Pella operations. That brings to 179 the number of jobs inactivated at the factory this year. The company was quick to point out it still has some 3,800 workers at its corporate headquarters and factory in Pella.
