Authorities in northwest Iowa are looking for a "person of interest" in the slaying of a Nebraska man over the weekend. Dakota County Attorney Ed Matney says police in South Sioux City were called to an apartment before ten AM on Saturday.

The police received a "check welfare call" at an apartment building, arrived and found the dead man. He’s been identified as 19-year-old Gary Lasley Junior, of Macy, Nebraska, who was not a resident of the apartment there. He’d been stabbed several times in the head and neck, and after a weekend autopsy the cause of death was declared to be homicide.

Lasley did not live at the apartment where his body was found, but nobody’s seen the man who does live there. Police would like to speak with the tenant of that apartment. 20-year-old Frederman Lopez is a Hispanic man five-feet-ten-inches tall and 250 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair, and may be driving a 1994 blue Mercury Grand Marquis four-door sedan with Nebraska license plates 70-C-587. The missing man’s described as a nice neighbor by other tenants who say he’d lived for the last few years in the Canterbury Village Apartment complex in South Sioux City.
