Sunny, warmer-than-normal weather in the 50s and 60s today is prompting Iowans to get an early start on spring. Some folks are prepping their yards, others are washing their cars, while a few are hitting golf balls. Dennis Hynek, of Cedar Rapids, was on the city’s Saint Andrews driving range on Sunday afternoon.

Hynek says "Cabin fever was setting in a little bit and I’m ready to get outside. I thought we’d come out and see how bad our swings are and they’re pretty bad." He says it was first time swinging the golf clubs since September.

Hynek says "I was very intent on doing housework, but my wife said ‘Honey, you really need to get out and hit some golf balls today,’ so I said, ‘Well, okay.’" The mounds of melting snow along the driving range didn’t bother Eric Heskje, also of Cedar Rapids, though he said his swing clearly reflected how long he’d taken off from golf.

Heskje says "It’s about what you’d expect. You come out here and get it over with and then, the next time, hopefully it will be a little bit better." The forecast calls for parts of southwest Iowa to see high temperatures today (Monday) at or near 70-degrees.
