The U.S. Senate is expected to complete work today  on legislation that would implement the recommendations of the Nine Eleven Commission. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, a Republican, says he’s disappointed in how the final product is shaping up.

Grassley says "Last week, the Democratic leadership rejected a package of amendments, including mine, to make sure that people on U.S. soil who had their visas revoked can be deported without delay rather than using our court system to extend their stay here illegally." Grassley says it’s clear that some people in Congress are more concerned about civil liberties and less concerned about thwarting terrorists.

Grassley says "A pre-9-11 mindset isn’t going to help keep terrorists out of this country. It seems to me that Americans have forgot, to a great extent, about what happened on September the 11th, the killing of three-thousand Americans by 20 terrorists." He says he wished the American people knew how many times federal agents have stopped terrorist attacks before they happened so people would better appreciate the job being done and the need for continued vigilance.
