The Drake womens’ magical post-season run came to an end Sunday as the Bulldogs fell to Tennessee 76-37. The top seeded Vols took control of the game at the end of the first half and continued that into the start of the second half to blow things wide open.

Drake Coach Amy Stephens on her postgame show on KRNT says that was the key stretch in the game. She says they struggled to shoot the ball and never got in a rhythm, and says that was due to Tennessee’s defense.

Stephens says they were ready going in, despite facing one of the storied programs in college basketball. She says she felt good early about what they were doing, and if a couple of shots had fallen, they might have gotten in a rhythm.

Drake was decimated by injuries, but went on a post-season run, winning the Missouri Valley Tournament and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Stephens says they learned a lot from the experience, and she couldn’t be more proud of her basketball team. Stephens says this is the beginning of the vision of the program to get into the NCAA Tournament. She says no one will forget their post-season run. Drake ends the season at 14-19.
