First District Iowa Congressman Bruce Braley says he expects Democrats who control the House to pass a bill that will provide funding for U.S. troops, but also require troops to be pulled out of Iraq by next year.

Braley says some of the recent developments will make the passage of the bill more likely to happen.  Braley, a Democrat from Waterloo, says the Democrat leadership has shown the have a good handle on the need to pass the supplemental spending bill, and to make sure that veterans are being taken care of as part of the process. He says it’s "an important vote, it’s an important test for leadership." Braley says he will vote for the measure.

Braley says: "I think because of the overwhelming support that is coming out from across the political spectrum, including a number of generals who have come out in support of it…including groups like Move On and Council for a Livable World, and other groups that are moderate, conservative who want to get something done to provide the troops the funding they need, and at the same time establish clear timelines to end this war in Iraq." Braley says the growing momentum to pull the troops out of Iraq led him to his decision.

Braley says he thinks there is "overwhelming support" from the American people to pull the troops out of Iraq, and that is why he decided to support the bill. The House is expected to vote on the bill sometime this week. The House bill would likely never get to the president as Democrats don’t have the votes in the Senate to pass it.
